Currently Learning : Jackhammer

I feel pretty rooted these days with the sprain :(

The things you do when you get bored :

- Juggle your laundry ( I did the socks )
- Go on MSN even if you're not talking to anyone
- You start studying or doing assignments ( Yeah, maybe it's a good thing I got injured?)
- You lie down a lot, somewhere ( I love my bed :))
- Or you blog, like me :)

Side note : For those who are interested to know about break dancing, here is your chance :)
This guide goes through step by step how to perform one of the tough power moves in
break dancing

I mean, even if you don't try it out, at least you have something to talk about next time :)

And if you do try it out, it is at your own risk, take care :) Sincerely~

Current Break dancing move :

Jackhammer

No no, not this Jackhammer

But the concept is the same

It is done using one hand as a pivot to bounce up and down

Yeah, one hand :)

So, it requires balance more than anything

and having strength would aid in bouncing higher

Let's do this step by step

Handglide/Turtle Stand

Start in the turtle stand position

It's also called the handglide position, didn't know till i checked

Assuming you are a right hander, (the guy in the pic is left handed)

1. Get down on your knees, stab ur right hand into ur gut (find a nice spot)

2. find a nice place for your left hand on the floor ( for balancing )

3. Now lean your body forward so that it is entirely supported by your right hand
(left hand is just for balance)

Can you picture it? Good :)

So, just keep practicing until you get it down for 20secs with ease

Don't forget to breathe :)

Try to keep your right hand straight :)

Bboy.org Video: handglide vid

Here, a vid of the handsome guy doing handglide half-naked for u girls :)

Cricket

I hope this wasn't what you had in mind lol

After hving done the handglide/turtle stand, you can proceed
to the cricket (which eventually lead to jackhammer)

Bboy.org Video: taps for handglide

Another video for you guys, on tapping

Before performing crickets, we should perform taps in the handglide position

so

1: Get into the handglide position
2: Make sure your right hand (which is under ur gut ) faces ur right knee
just like in the video

*remember he is left handed*

3: Start tapping :) Just pivot ur body on ur right hand, while your left hand
moves

Once you can do step 3 with ease, you can start pumping

Bboy.org Video: 1 cricket

This is a video of a cricket, achieved by pumping

4 : To pump, give ur right hand (the one under ur gut) a push, as if straightening
your right hand a bit

*Don't pump too hard, you only need enough strength to go up one or two inches*

5 : Before you're right hand lands, make sure you re-cock it

*meaning you should make ur fingers face your knee again*

Notice how the guy in the video re-cocks his hand before his hand lands

If you're knee didn't touch the ground, you've did one cricket succesfully :)))

If you are a first timer and are able to get to this part of the post, I
sincerely congratulate you

Take a break, since the next few parts of this post will be a bit harder
(I also reached this far only too for now)

Consecutive Crickets

Now it's time to see if you got the hang of it

Doing consecutive crickets relies on the momentum of your body

Sp of you're not confident in your ability, practice more on the single cricket first
before attempting multiple consecutive ones

Remember, injury is the worst enemy for any sportsmen

Well, actually it is for everyone

Bboy.org Video: starting crickets

1 : Remember to re-cock your hand
2 : If you are confident, pump quickly, get the momentum running
3 : Don't pump too high, you'll get tired
4: Swinging your hips helps you gain momentum (only if you want the extra
momentum)

*If you're using your right hand you should be going clockwise direction*

5: Do not swing your legs upwards, you'd go too high

6 : Practice makes perfect :)

Jackhammer Finally!!

As you can see we finally arrive at our goal
(about time eh?)

Truthfully, if you can reach this stage ( where your cricket is smooth and clean)
within a month, that is considered really good~!

Mastering crickets is not essential to learn jackhammer, but it is advisable

since you get a lot of wrist strength (Lessens the risk of injuring yourself)

and since you already know how to pump and balance yourself

Bboy.org Video: New Jackhammers

This video, the guy is really good, he does clean jackhammers

All you need to do is lift ur left hand up while performing crickets

-keep the momentum going
-keep your right arm in and ur legs bent
-lean your body to the right
-use your hips for momentum, no more relying on your hand :)

Last but not least

Remember to Re-cock

Really, it's important, people injure their wrists because they forget to do so

Which is why mastering crickets is also important

Get used to re-cocking, yeah :)

Side note : Don't force yourself if you can't learn something fast enough

Everyone learns at their own pace

The most important thing is ur not injured :)

So Don't rush through this guide :)

I hope you enjoyed this guide :)

It is something new for you guys, since most blogs just talk about ppl's daily life
and outings

And even if you don't plan on breaking (excuse the pun) you did get
some good knowledge on break dancing :)

Speaking as a guy, it is easier for girls to get ppl to read their blog

They take loads of pics, and ppl want to see pictures of girls with their girlfriends

I mean, who doesn't?

So it's not necessary for them to make jokes or crazy unpredictable unique posts

For us guys, we might hv to resort to some (hehe :)) ways to get readers~

Not that you guys wouldn't read my blog, (you guys are my frens right? T_T)

But I feel it's best if I make this blog interesting and nice for readers

Thanks again and have a nice day~~~~~~~~~~~~~!

p.s. I want to do jackhammers by March 19 2009

If I do, I'll treat myself to Mcflurry

If I don't, I'll go to the top of KBU and shout (and you know i'll do it :))

Petty reward I know, but better than nothing yea :) AND I LOVE MCFLURRY!

Toodles~ :)

Am I not an interesting guy? :)
